Different ways of looking
at things
(Text and one of the art medals below from Jose
Teixeira)
Many are the thoughts, ideas or dreams that cross the obscurity of the mind, only lingering in the present no longer than an instant before dashing off like falling stars.
Images are packed with the time that they disclose. As they go on by or die out at that precise moment, they either come back to haunt us from time to time like floating spectres or take form and linger on a little longer until they scatter off into the depth of the all and nothingness.
The pleasure we take in doing things partly results from the possibility we have in integrating them in time thus conveying them a presence that will last a little longer than the fleeting moment during which imagination weaves its web.
Time that dissolves all to create anew in a succession of metamorphical appearances of reality is the same as the time that renews and recreates itself in the upcoming generations; endlessly reproducing itself in other beings and in other things.
Changeable like time but harmonious with reproduction, eroticism is of a more vague nature.
It has more to do with the strategies of desire, dream and seduction than with the speculative precision of reason.
The achievement of this series of erotic medals evokes, on one hand, the indetermination of dream and fantasy when faced with the circumstances in which suggestion came up during an informal conversation between friends and, on the other hand, the determination of will power that joined in to shape the materials and give them a medal-body with both obverse and reverse and tails that will be seen in different ways.
